Step onto the living ice of the Matanuska Glacier with a private guide, and experience a trek designed entirely for your family, friends, or group. This is glacier hiking at your pace, tailored for multigenerational families, larger parties, or anyone seeking a personal, unforgettable adventure.

Our most popular tour exclusively for your family or group. This tour visits the best accessible features of the front glacier and great views of the icefall; at a pace for your family.

Glacier trekking (hiking) is for virtually everyone! With proper equipment and an experienced guide, explore the hidden treasures of the Matanuska Glacier.

Minimum age: 6 years
No experience needed

The Private Trek is perfect for larger groups, mixed generational families and families with kids ages 6+.

We operate with a maximum of 8 guests per guide on our treks but can accommodate larger groups if you book multiple Private Trek groups. This tour is priced per group starting at $645/group of up to 6 people. Up to two more people may be added for an additional fee. With more than 8 people, you may book more than one Private Trek Group.

*Our Ice Fall Trek fee does not include the Glacier Park Access Fee, which must be paid upon Check In at the MICA Base. For more details and current rates see Glacier Access.

What to Expect

3.5 hours in total with an average of 2.5 hours on the Matanuska Glacier
Guide narration of exciting glacial features and stunning views from a high point in the ice fall
Instruction on proper microspike walking techniques (microspikes and helmets provided)

What to Bring

For the Ice Fall Trek we require you to have:

A backpack with room for gear. If you don’t have one, we have some available for you to use!
Long Pants
Hiking boots that come over the ankle. If you don’t own a pair, we have some available for you to use!

Our recommendations on clothing and gear:

Quick dry clothing (not cotton/jeans). Usually a good pair of hiking pants works great. Ski pants and jackets are not necessary
Rain gear, even if it isn’t raining
Liner gloves
Tall synthetic or wool socks
Extra warm layers
Snacks and water or packed lunch
Sunscreen
Sunglasses
Camera
